many of the exteriors in this film were shot in and around my hometown of whitefish, montana (browning (the blackfeet rez just south of glacier), whitefish, and glacier national park (just south of whitefish) were all used). legend has it that cuba gooding jr. popped into the great northern bar and grill (i still wear my t-shirt from there constantly) several times and bought the bar for the night.

you’ve seen the opening to the shining, right? the island in the first shot is in lake st. mary in east glacier and the road they’re driving on is the going-to-the-sun-road (heading up to logan pass). truly majestic country.

man, i miss that neck of the woods.
