Rolling Stone, you take the cake:
…so we can pretty much pin the entire state of emo at this point on Minor Threat.
Why do I even bother? Do the folks at RS even know what music is…
It is my understanding that Minor Threat and Rites of Spring really did sire emo music. As in, RS is 100% correct-o.
rites of spring was the first post-harcore band to have the term “emo” applied and where they left off fugazi picked up (two members of rites of spring and one member of minor threat (albiet the lead spokesman) went on to form fugazi, whom many consider to be the galvanizing force behind transmuting a sub-genre of post-punk into a bona fide genre). basically, they should just blame washington d.c. and dischord.
w/e. i’ve talked about all this before. (previous sentence is a nod to a lyric by honor role, the grandfathers of math rock, who also hail from the d.c. area and they were fucking STELLAR and you should listen to them every damn day. here’s more.).
